Many people have difficulty to take assertive action, whether at work or in their personal lives. Often there is confusion between the assertive and aggressive. I believe that the credibility and moral authority is lost when there are signs of aggression that could lead you being labeled as not acting professionally.
Establish clear expectations for yourself and others, do not expect others to guess what is in your mind. Express exactly what you expect from them and in this way you will be more respected.
Creating clear separative boundaries is important and fair to both parties. Take control of the situation, always be aware of your surroundings and identify other expectations.
Use body language to make a big difference in how others treat us. It is part of the “expected to be heard.” You should be more careful and not to intimidate others. When you sit down, sit in a comfortable chair at the same height. This will influence how the interaction with other people would work. Be careful to avoid conflicting messages.
Back up plan. If you do not get what you expect, be calm, repeatedly saying your position and maintain control. Repeat what you want and explain the reasons. Think what are the consequences of failing, in advance. Never act in haste or rush with either threatening, harassing or screaming.
